Stretch Casual Shorts

Casual shorts only work if they still look like clothing after you sit in a car and walk a city block. These have stretch at the waist and seat so they do not pinch when you sit, and a straight, easy cut that does not look like gym shorts. The fabric recovers instead of bagging at the thigh.

Use them on warm days with the short-sleeve shirt, a tee, or a knit. Belt loops take the ratchet belt if you want a cleaner waist. Three colors cover the week: navy for a sharper casual look, black for evenings, beige when you want a lighter summer pair.

Why they are not throwaway shorts

• Stretch where you need it. Waist and seat give, then hold, so you are not constantly hitching them up.
• A hem that looks finished. Clean length for walking, not a board-short cut.
• Fabric that survives a wash. Cold machine wash, hang or low dry. They are built for rotation, not one weekend.
• Belt loops that actually get used. Pair with the ratchet belt when you want the waist to sit exactly where you set it.

Fit

Straight, easy cut. Start with your usual casual-short size. If you sit between sizes and prefer a cleaner hip, take the smaller; for ease through the seat, take the larger.
